Lynn Haney, a Nurse Practitioner, speaks with one of the midwives in the community (center) about the realities of his work. The health team found that OB/GYN issues were amongst the more common problems in the community. The midwife spoke about his desire to learn more about how to provide better services for the women that seek his help. He discussed the lack of medical gloves and other important sanitary materials as discouraging and dangerous.
Darcy Batherson, a registered nurse in Storrs, Connecticut, and Karen McManemin, a Masters Students in Public Health at Boston University, planning together at the health team's first meeting. The team will be flying to Haiti in mid-April, 2009, to sit with the residents of Gran Sous and begin discussing how they can help design an appropriate and effective health project. As they meet with the community they will begin an informal assessment of the health issues facing residents, and the goals the community has for addressing them.



The first assortment of medical supplies and medications that will be heading to Haiti with the health group traveling to Gran Sous in April. The supplies will be used to treat ill residents and help the health team evaluate the most common illnesses plaguing the community.
